Graffiti Bridge is the unofficial sequel to Purple Rain. In this movie, The Kid and Morris Day are still competitors and each runs a club of his own. They make a bet about who writes the best song and the Kid’s club is on the line. But the Kid has become a brooding character who writes letters to his dead father and ponders spirituality. Under the Graffiti Bridge in the park, he meets Aura, an angel-like poet with whom he falls in love. Once again, Morris tries to steal his girl, and in the end, she dies in a tragic accident. But not in vain, she has given the Kid his edge back, and Morris gives in and lets him keep the club after hearing the moving ballad the Kid composed.

Film Review

This is a hideously, embarrassingly bad film. Prince spends much of it sliming about attempting to look enticing, wearing a truly disgusting beard and what looks like some kind of toddler’s romper suit which gives him the appearance of just having arrived from a special needs pageant. Finding a spider in your bed would be sexier. As for the story, what story? He took time off to compose the"Batman" soundtrack and in late ’89, he began filming "GraffitiBridge". Many that got first dibs on the film forewarned a lot ofpeople about it. "Graffiti Bridge" was released in the fall of 1990with horrible reviews. It also bombed at the box office. People thatdidn’t even see the film gave it negative reviews. What people failto understand is that "Graffiti Bridge" is a musical. It is almost likea homage to the old 50’s musicals that were filmed on studio lots. This was film on Prince’s Paisley Park compound, giving it acheap look. Perhaps Prince took himself a little bit too seriouslywhen advertising i…
